Homecoming
Ghosts and goblins roamed the sidelines but on this
Halloween afternoon the strongest spirit was that
of ONE TEAM. Before the game started, parents of senior
players lined the field in anticipation of the now
traditional ceremony wherein the senior players present
lei to their parents in recognition of the ONE TEAM
value of Balance. This ONE TEAM value recognizes that
each team member is also a member of his or her family,
school, and community, and must fulfill responsibilities
to them as well as dedicating his or her efforts to
sports.
The parents did not have long to wait as the senior
Raiders led the team back onto the field.
Followed by the rest of the team. Sure looks like
they were breathing fire and smoke as they headed
onto the field. They were eager to play, but the smoke
was actually from the concession.
The Word of Life team used a double wing offense
so the Raiders countered by bringing their defenders
up close to the line of scrimmage.
The Raiders were able to stop the run even though
at times it was hard to see who had the ball from
the spectator’s point of view.
Meanwhile, Raiders’ coach Wendell Look directed
a balanced attack that efficiently put points on the
scoreboard, choosing from what seemed like a whole
page of plays.
Good sportsmanship prevailed throughout the game
and spirits were high on both sides.
Oh, and did we mention it was Homecoming
and Halloween?
